OpenAI has raised USD 8.3 billion as part of its ambitious USD 40 billion fundraising initiative, driven by heightened investor interest in generative AI. This funding round, led by Dragoneer Investment Group, was five times oversubscribed and closed ahead of schedule, reflecting the surging popularity of its ChatGPT product suite. OpenAI now boasts over five million paid business users, increasing from three million, and its annual recurring revenue (ARR) has surged to USD 13 billion, with projections to exceed USD 20 billion by the end of 2025. Notable investors in this round include Blackstone, TPG, and Sequoia Capital. The funding comes as OpenAI faces competition from Anthropic, which is reportedly seeking USD 3–5 billion in its own funding round. Both companies are also considering significant investments from Middle Eastern entities, with OpenAI collaborating with Abu Dhabi’s G42 on a data center project to support their growth.
