OpenAI is starting the year with an acqui-hire, acquiring the team behind Convogo, a platform that automates leadership assessments for executive coaches and HR teams. OpenAI spokesperson confirmed that while technology and intellectual property from Convogo won’t be acquired, the co-founders—Matt Cooper, Evan Cater, and Mike Gillett—will join OpenAI to enhance its AI cloud initiatives. Founded as a weekend project, Convogo has aided thousands of coaches and collaborated with top leadership firms. However, the existing Convogo product will be discontinued. The acquisition, the ninth for OpenAI within a year, highlights the company’s strategy to leverage M&A for talent acquisition and capability enhancement. Past acquisitions have often involved folding products into OpenAI’s ecosystem. This move signals OpenAI’s commitment to making AI more accessible and useful across various industries, continuing its mission of bridging the gap between AI capabilities and real-world applications.
