OpenAI Suspends Jony Ive Deal Promotions Following Court Ruling

admin

OpenAI has removed a video highlighting CEO Sam Altman’s friendship with designer Jony Ive and their $6.5 billion acquisition deal related to Altman’s device startup, io, from its website and YouTube. This prompted speculation about issues with the acquisition or Ive’s role at OpenAI. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the deal is still intact, indicating the removal stems from a restraining order concerning the io name due to a trademark dispute with iyO, a company from Alphabet X’s moonshot factory. OpenAI confirmed the situation is due to a court order and stated they are reviewing their options, asserting the deal with io remains unaffected. The trademark lawsuit from iyO claims that OpenAI’s promotional activities could confuse consumers. For now, the controversial video is still available on X.
