OpenAI to Introduce Advertisements in ChatGPT

OpenAI is reportedly considering introducing advertisements into ChatGPT, a move reminiscent of how platforms like Amazon and YouTube have become cluttered with ads. Currently, users enjoy an ad-free experience despite the existence of paid tiers, unlike Google Search, which incorporates ads into user interactions. Recent code discoveries in the ChatGPT Android app hint at new “ads features,” suggesting an impending shift toward a more commercialized platform, potentially starting with search. Despite the risk of alienating users—who are already frustrated with ad saturation on other platforms—OpenAI may feel compelled to capitalize on its user base, which surged to approximately 800 million weekly users as of mid-2025. With ChatGPT handling around 2.5 billion prompts daily, ads could drive revenue significantly, but they also risk diluting user experience. The question remains: will users tolerate these changes, or will it lead them to abandon the platform?
