OpenAI is set to open its first office in Washington, D.C. in early 2026, marking a strategic move to strengthen its ties with lawmakers and regulators. Currently home to about 30 employees, this office will replace the company’s temporary co-working space in the capital. CEO Sam Altman will attend a conference hosted by the Federal Reserve in D.C., highlighting the company’s proactive engagement with government entities. OpenAI recently launched “OpenAI for Government” and secured a $200 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. Chan Park will oversee the D.C. office, joined by Joe Larson as vice president focusing on public sector relations. The office will feature “The Workshop,” a lab for nonprofit leaders and policymakers to test and preview OpenAI technologies. With a valuation of $300 billion, OpenAI continues to expand its global presence, currently with offices in major cities worldwide.
