OpenAI Unlocks Free Access to Codex for All ChatGPT Users: What You Need to Know

admin

OpenAI has made its AI coding tool, Codex, accessible for all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier, starting June 4, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility for developers and students by allowing them to leverage AI assistance for coding tasks such as writing code, fixing bugs, and running tests. Codex, based on the advanced codex-1 model, can process natural language prompts and generate functional code, making it user-friendly for both beginners and experienced programmers. Additionally, it integrates with GitHub and supports voice commands. While OpenAI notes that usage limits might be enforced during high-demand periods, they emphasize safety by blocking harmful code and focusing on legitimate requests. Future plans include connecting Codex with CI tools to promote collaboration among teams. Although the service is currently free, it may transition to a paid model for heavy users.
