OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, an innovative AI browser that integrates ChatGPT, designed to enhance user experience by allowing seamless interaction. Featuring an “Ask ChatGPT” sidebar, users can inquire directly about web content without switching to a separate app. Atlas offers key functionalities like summarizing pages, product comparisons, content analysis, and code assistance, adapting to user needs over time with built-in browser memory. The browser initiates searches with ChatGPT responses while also providing quick access to standard search results, images, and more. It includes OpenAI’s Operator AI agent for executing web tasks, such as booking reservations and filling forms, alongside the “Cursor Chat” tool for inline writing edits. With a familiar interface akin to Safari and Chrome, ChatGPT Atlas is launching for macOS first, with future availability on iOS, Android, and Windows. As AI browsers emerge, Apple’s Safari may need to incorporate AI capabilities to stay competitive.
