OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Health: A New Platform for Integrating Personal Medical Records

OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a new tool positioned as a “healthcare ally.” This specialized tab within ChatGPT allows users to ask health-related questions in a secure environment, featuring separate chat history and memory. Users are encouraged to link personal medical records and wellness apps like Apple Health and MyFitnessPal for tailored responses. Collaboration with b.well enables seamless medical record integration, accessing data from 2.2 million providers. Though OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is not for diagnosis or treatment, it acknowledges significant user engagement, reporting 230 million health inquiries per week. Mental health support remains a delicate topic; OpenAI aims to direct users towards professionals for sensitive situations. Privacy is prioritized, with enhanced encryption and a separate space for health conversations. However, there’s no HIPAA compliance for consumer use, highlighting ongoing legal and ethical concerns. As the product rolls out, a waitlist is in place for access.
