OpenAI has announced the rollout of the GPT-5 Codex model across all its Codex platforms, including Terminal, IDE extensions, and Codex Web. Codex is an AI tool that simplifies coding tasks, allowing users—regardless of programming experience—to automate complex tasks and “vibe code” applications. Although Codex has not yet reached the performance levels of its competitor, Claude Code, the new GPT-5 Codex achieves a notable 74.5% success rate on the SWE-bench Verified benchmark. Code refactoring capabilities have improved significantly, jumping from 33.9% with GPT-5 to 51.3% with GPT-5-Codex. As of now, the rollout is still in progress, and users of ChatGPT Plus may not see the updated model immediately. OpenAI assures full availability to all users in the coming days, highlighting Codex’s potential for enhancing productivity in coding tasks. Stay tuned for updates on this AI coding advancement.
