OpenAI, founded by Sam Altman, has introduced its inaugural certification courses via the OpenAI Academy, aiming to certify 10 million Americans in AI skills by 2030. The first course, AI Foundations, empowers users to master job-ready AI skills using ChatGPT’s dedicated learning mode, allowing practical experience and feedback. The second course, ChatGPT Foundations for Teachers, is designed for K-12 educators and focuses on incorporating ChatGPT into classroom activities, available on Coursera. OpenAI aims to enhance AI literacy and productivity through these programs, creating opportunities for verified competence in the workplace. The AI Foundations course is currently in pilot with major employers such as Walmart and Accenture, while the educator module facilitates responsible AI integration in education. OpenAI plans to expand its certification offerings and is reportedly developing an AI-powered job platform slated for launch in mid-2026. These initiatives represent a significant step towards broader AI education and skill development.
