OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is actively pursuing global fundraising to enhance the company’s computing capacity, focusing on East Asia and the Middle East. According to a Wall Street Journal report, since late September, Altman has engaged with key suppliers like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, Foxconn, Samsung, and SK Hynix in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. The discussions aim to boost AI chip production and secure priority orders for OpenAI’s growing needs. Already, Samsung and SK Hynix have signed letters of intent to supply memory chips for OpenAI’s data centers. Altman is also planning to visit the UAE to attract investors for infrastructure and research funding. OpenAI anticipates spending approximately $16 billion on computing servers this year, with projected expenses potentially reaching $400 billion by 2029. This strategic initiative underscores OpenAI’s commitment to scaling its AI technology and enhancing its operational capabilities.
