OpenAI’s head of ChatGPT, Nick Turley, clarified the confusion surrounding ads potentially appearing in the AI chatbot. He stated on X that “there are no live tests for ads,” dismissing screenshots circulating as either fake or not actual ads. This followed a post by former xAI employee Benjamin De Kraker, which showcased a shopping feature linked to Target. OpenAI’s Daniel McAuley explained that this example stems from app integration announced in October, while Chief Research Officer Mark Chen acknowledged they “fell short” in this instance. Chen indicated that they have disabled similar suggestions to enhance model accuracy. Although there’s ongoing uncertainty regarding the future introduction of ads in ChatGPT, Turley mentioned that if ads are pursued, they would be approached thoughtfully. He emphasized the importance of maintaining user trust in ChatGPT with any future developments. Keep an eye on updates as OpenAI continues to refine the model and its features.
