A groundbreaking vessel trial in Mexico is integrating AI-driven decision support tools to enhance daily ship operations, focusing on fuel efficiency and emissions control for ship managers. Launched at Pichilingue Port, this initiative is part of the Global Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres Network Phase II, funded by the EU and implemented by the IMO. The onboard system offers real-time data and performance analysis to optimize fuel consumption, maintenance, and vessel efficiency while adhering to stricter emissions regulations. This innovative platform was highlighted during a national workshop aimed at “Advancing Maritime Decarbonisation in Mexico,” gathering maritime professionals to explore the 2023 IMO greenhouse gas strategy. Participants emphasized the system’s potential to transform operational practices by enabling real-time adjustments to trim, speed, and route, resulting in significant fuel savings. The GMN Phase II program also plans additional demonstrations on port efficiency, wind-assisted propulsion, and retrofitting solutions for broader fleet adoption.
