Over One-Third of Americans Turn to AI Tools like ChatGPT for Career and Education Insights, Reports ETHRWorldSEA

A study from Southeastern Oklahoma State University highlights the increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) among American adults for career and educational decisions. Notably, 34% use tools like ChatGPT, with 52% considering a job change, led by Gen Z (57%) and Millennials (55%). Sectors facing high turnover include marketing, transportation, and hospitality. AI aids career exploration: 43% use it for resume assistance, while 18% discover new career paths. Education is also impacted, with 54% contemplating further studies. Generational interest varies: 67% of Gen Z and 57% of Millennials are considering additional education. Trust in AI is mixed; 52% somewhat trust its advice, but 60% prefer human input. The adoption of AI in career guidance varies, with both generational differences and varying responses to following AI advice. As AI’s role in career development grows, Learning and Development (L&D) leaders must understand its influence on skills acquisition and career planning.
