“Overwhelmed by AI: How Managing Multiple Agents is Taking a Toll on Employees” • The Register

As AI adoption in the workplace rises, employees are facing “AI brain fry,” a term coined by researchers at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to describe the cognitive fatigue from managing AI tools. A survey of 1,488 full-time U.S. workers revealed that 14% experienced symptoms like brain fog and difficulty concentrating due to excessive oversight of AI agents. Those in marketing, human resources, and operations are most affected, given the prevalence of AI disruption in these fields. Notably, while a single or double AI tool can boost productivity, using more than three may diminish it. According to BCG, effective leadership and proper training are crucial to mitigating AI brain fry; teams that integrate AI effectively report higher engagement and reduced burnout. Addressing this issue proactively will be vital for organizations to harness AI’s benefits without overwhelming their employees.
