Perplexity’s Comet Browser Launches Free Access Globally, Aiming at Chrome Users

Perplexity AI has launched its AI-driven web browser, Comet, globally and free for all users. Initially available to Perplexity Max subscribers for $200/month, Comet functions as a personal assistant, capable of web searching, email drafting, and online shopping. By offering Comet for free, Perplexity aims to compete with notable AI-powered browsers from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Comet is designed for productivity, featuring research tools, task automation, and information summarization. In contrast, Google Chrome, which integrates AI through Gemini, remains primarily a general-purpose browser. Chrome retains its traditional speed and stability, while Comet enhances productivity with an AI-powered sidebar for professional workflows. Perplexity’s revenue-sharing program with publishers addresses prior content concerns, positioning Comet as a robust research platform. Upcoming features include a mobile version and a Background Assistant for multitasking. Comet seeks to establish itself as a comprehensive assistant in the evolving landscape of AI and web browsing.
