Politeness Towards AI: Over 50% of UAE Residents Show Courtesy to ChatGPT

A recent YouGov survey reveals that 55.5% of UAE residents frequently express politeness, saying “please” or “thank you” while interacting with artificial intelligence (AI), the highest among 17 nations surveyed. This trend highlights the growing significance of etiquette in human-AI interactions. Other countries where politeness is prevalent include Mexico (54.1%) and India (50.2%).

Notably, women in the UAE exhibit more politeness (58.9%) compared to men (54.1%). OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, humorously noted concerns over electricity costs from such polite interactions. In discussions on AI adoption, UAE Minister Omar bin Sultan Al Olama emphasized that AI usage is nearly universal in the UAE, underscoring the nation’s vast technological advancements over 25 years. He encourages everyone to embrace AI tools for personal growth, warning that those who don’t adapt will miss out. In contrast, Denmark (31.1%) and the US (32.3%) reported the lowest politeness levels in AI interactions.
