Google announced that starting July 7, 2025, its Gemini AI will access several apps, including messaging platforms like WhatsApp, regardless of whether users actively utilize Gemini as an assistant. This change, highlighted in an email to users, raises data privacy concerns due to its vague wording and sudden introduction. Despite reservations, Google reassured users that they could disable this feature in the Apps settings to prevent Gemini from interacting with their personal apps. With Gemini Apps Activity off, interactions and chats are not reviewed for AI improvements. The update is intended to enhance user experience, allowing Gemini to assist with tasks like sending messages and making calls. Users can navigate to their Gemini settings to disable this feature or delete past activity. Although hiding the app is an option, complete uninstallation isn’t possible since it often comes pre-installed. Users are encouraged to verify settings on the specified date.
