Quebec Set to Pilot AI Scribes for Streamlining Medical Note-Taking by Doctors

Frustrated by excessive paperwork, many Quebec doctors are adopting AI tools, such as Plume AI, to streamline medical note transcription. Santé Québec plans to initiate a pilot project to explore the broader use of these technologies in healthcare. Dr. Felix Lê-Phat-Hô, a Montreal family physician, highlights that using Plume AI has significantly reduced his paperwork by two to three hours daily, allowing him to see more patients and providing them with undivided attention. Currently, only AI applications certified by Santé Québec, ensuring data protection, are in use. Plume AI, developed by Quebec doctors, is reportedly used by about 2,000 physicians. Despite initial cybersecurity concerns, Lê-Phat-Hô appreciates the tool’s local data storage and expeditious note generation. Dr. James Tu, co-founder of Plume AI, envisions collaboration with more healthcare professionals to enhance the AI’s impact. As AI transforms healthcare, rigorous regulations and security measures are essential for its responsible integration.
