In a groundbreaking cultural event, the Ramayana was recently adapted and staged by the Pakistani theatre group Mauj in Karachi’s Sindh province. This performance took place at the Karachi Arts Council, utilizing innovative AI tools to enhance its visual storytelling. Directed by Yogeshwar Karera, this adaptation received positive attention for its creative approach to the Indian epic.

The event featured a dynamic blend of digital sets, a captivating music score, and robust performances, earning praise for its unique interpretation. Key cast members included Aamir Ali as Raja Dashrath, Waqas Akhtar as Laxman, and Jibran Khan as Hanuman, with live vocals by Monica Ahmed.

Raana Kazmi produced the event, emphasizing the tale’s themes of love, dharma, and duty. Karera expressed confidence in the audience’s acceptance, believing Pakistani society is more tolerant than often portrayed. The play was performed from July 11-13, attracting a diverse audience eager to experience this epic narrative in a new light.
