The emerging AI landscape is increasingly shifting towards on-device capabilities, with London-based startup Mirai leading the charge. Founded by Dima Shvets and Alexey Moiseenkov, Mirai has secured a $10 million seed round from Uncork Capital and others, aiming to enhance AI model performance on consumer hardware like smartphones and laptops. By developing an inference engine optimized for Apple Silicon, Mirai seeks to streamline app integration, allowing developers to implement complex functionalities using minimal code. Their technology promises up to a 37% increase in model generation speed while maintaining output quality. Mirai’s focus includes improving text and voice processing, with future plans to incorporate visual capabilities. Recognizing the limitations of on-device processing, they are also building an orchestration layer to handle requests requiring cloud solutions. The demand for efficient edge inferencing is growing, and Mirai is well-positioned to meet this need in the evolving AI market landscape.
