Indian enterprises rank among the highest global users of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) tools, according to the 2026 AI Security Report by Zscaler ThreatLabz. The report reveals that India is experiencing unprecedented growth in AI data transfers and associated data leakage incidents, with an increase of 309.9% year-on-year. In 2025, India accounted for 82.3 billion transactions of AI/ML traffic, representing 46.2% of traffic in the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. Key sectors driving this usage include IT, banking, financial services, and technology. The report notes significant data leakage concerns, linking 410 million violations to tools like ChatGPT, emphasizing the need for robust data loss prevention (DLP) measures. As enterprises scale AI adoption, 39% of AI transactions were subjected to security controls, yet maintaining oversight remains a challenge. Efficient governance alongside rapid deployment is crucial to mitigate potential vulnerabilities and protect sensitive information.
