Research by Quietroom reveals that AI search tools like OpenAI’s Operator struggle with accurately providing pension information due to poor web content presentation. The study found that AI tools often fail to extract relevant data, leading to incorrect answers and misinformation. For example, when tasked with calculating retirement eligibility, Operator could not read information organized in ‘accordions’, resulting in inaccuracies. Other tests with ChatGPT and Google also showed discrepancies, as AI generated incorrect responses from unrelated schemes. This is concerning, particularly with the Financial Conduct Authority’s Consumer Duty stating that firms are accountable for AI outputs. Instead of tailoring content for AI, Quietroom advocates for clearer and more human-friendly writing. By enhancing content structure and readability, AI tools can better summarize and convey accurate information, ensuring that pension scheme members receive reliable guidance.
