Retired Lt. Gen. Dushyant Singh: Harness AI as a Supportive Tool, Not a Dominating Force

At the Ran Samvad 2025 conference, Lt Gen. Dushyant Singh (Retd), Director General of the Centre for Land Warfare Studies, emphasized the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing decision-making and future predictive capabilities for the defense sector. However, he cautioned against overrelying on AI, suggesting it should serve as an assistive tool rather than one that controls. Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor acknowledged the enduring significance of artillery in warfare, asserting that AI must integrate with other military technologies to maintain a competitive edge. Retd Maj Gen Ashok Kumar discussed the evolution of warfare techniques, highlighting AI’s potential to perform complex tasks beyond human capacity. The inaugural session also featured insights from Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, who stressed India’s need for security and self-reliance to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat. The conference aims to outline India’s strategic roadmap for future warfare, with more discussions expected on the following day.
