Israeli researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have developed an innovative AI tool, “MAgeNet,” capable of accurately predicting an individual’s biological age from minimal DNA samples. Published in Cell Reports, this groundbreaking technology utilizes a deep learning model to analyze DNA methylation changes, achieving an impressive median age prediction error of just 1.36 years for those under 50. Unlike conventional age estimation methods, MAgeNet maintains high accuracy irrespective of factors such as smoking, weight, or gender. This tool has significant implications for personalized medicine, enabling treatments tailored to biological age rather than chronological age, enhancing therapy effectiveness. Moreover, MAgeNet can aid forensic science by estimating the age of individuals from trace DNA at crime scenes.
