In response to the evolving UK water sector, UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) has launched an innovative AI search tool to enhance access to crucial water research, aligning with the Independent Water Commission (IWC) final report’s emphasis on collaborative, evidence-driven initiatives. UKWIR’s chief executive, Mike Rose, highlighted the significance of this tool in fostering industry collaboration with academic and regulatory bodies to ensure resilient water management. Developed with user experience in mind, the AI tool streamlines research access, providing quick, reliable data for informed policy-making. Unique to UKWIR, it utilizes a customizable Llama language model, offering contextual searches and generative responses for tailored research insights. This initiative is seen as a potential world-first in water research, ensuring transparency and fostering international collaboration through the Global Water Research Coalition (GWRC). UKWIR plans ongoing digital enhancements to support the sector’s transformation, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable, trusted water future.
