Researchers are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) tools to analyze weight-loss outcomes and 1,300 medical conditions before and after treatment with GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound. The study, involving 14 million doctors’ notes and 15 million clinical data entries from over 135,000 patients, reveals that about 12.5% were “super responders,” losing over 15% of their weight in the first year. AI identifies clinical traits distinguishing these super responders from those with moderate or minimal success. For instance, muscle stiffness without knee pain may enhance the likelihood of significant weight loss with Zepbound. Conversely, conditions like osteoarthritis reduce this probability. Insights suggest that personalized treatment decisions can be made based on a patient’s health history. The ongoing analysis aims to develop an algorithm for predicting drug efficacy, ultimately optimizing treatment strategies for individuals suffering from obesity and related conditions. This research could transform clinical approaches in obesity treatment.
