Revolutionizing Web Browsing: An AI-Driven Experiment in Custom On-Demand Apps

Google has launched Disco, an experimental AI-powered browser from Google Labs, designed to innovate web browsing. Announced on December 11, 2025, Disco isn’t a competitor to Chrome but serves as a “discovery vehicle” for testing groundbreaking AI features. Its standout functionality, GenTabs, leverages Google’s advanced Gemini 3 model to create personalized, interactive web applications based on user data, like open tabs and chat history, instead of traditional ad-laden sites.

Disco addresses the clutter of modern browsing by consolidating information into user-friendly mini-apps tailored to specific tasks, such as trip planning or meal prepping. Unlike competitors like Perplexity’s Comet, Disco emphasizes crafting a new interactive experience, ensuring transparency by linking back to original sources.

Currently in early testing, it’s available primarily for macOS, with plans for Windows and Linux support. Disco envisions a future where web browsing adapts to individual needs, promoting seamless and personalized online experiences.
