Robinhood CEO Addresses OpenAI Concerns About Tokenized Stock Model

Share

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev recently addressed concerns regarding the platform’s tokenized shares of OpenAI and SpaceX, stating they are “not entirely relevant” since these tokens are not technically equity in the companies. This follows OpenAI’s warning that any transfer of its equity requires approval, which Robinhood did not obtain. Tenev clarified that these stock tokens are linked to Robinhood’s ownership in a special-purpose vehicle, allowing European Union users to gain exposure to private companies. He emphasized the significance of offering retail customers access to disruptive assets like AI, regardless of their equity status. Additionally, the Bank of Lithuania is currently evaluating the legality of these instruments, awaiting further information from Robinhood to ensure compliance and transparency in communications with investors. Tenev expressed willingness to cooperate with regulators, asserting the company is prepared for scrutiny as an innovative player in the financial space.
