Sam Altman Acknowledges OpenAI’s Missteps in GPT-5 Launch and Announces Massive Investment in Data Centers

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, envisions a radical reimagining of the internet through brain-computer interfaces and potentially acquiring Google Chrome. However, he faces challenges with the rollout of GPT-5, which users criticized for lacking the warmth and friendliness of the previous model, GPT-4o. Following widespread backlash on social media, Altman reverted to the older model, admitting mistakes in the upgrade process. He emphasized the need for a massive infrastructure investment, predicting OpenAI could spend trillions on data centers to support billions of daily users of ChatGPT, which is already one of the world’s largest websites.

Altman also revealed ambitions beyond the chatbot, including funding a rival to Neuralink and expressing interest in an AI-driven social network. Despite these aspirations, he cautioned that the current excitement surrounding AI may reflect a “bubble,” while also affirming AI’s significance in modern technology.
