Sam Altman Reveals Meta’s Attempt to Recruit OpenAI Talent

Meta Platforms Inc attempted to lure talent from OpenAI by offering US$100 million bonuses and annual salaries exceeding US$100 million, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. In a podcast interview, Altman noted that despite Meta’s aggressive recruitment efforts, none of OpenAI’s top employees accepted offers. He mentioned Meta’s significant investment in AI, including a deal worth over US$10 billion with Scale AI Inc. to enhance its AI capabilities. Altman expressed skepticism about Meta’s strategy, stating that merely offering high compensation would not foster a positive corporate culture. He also indicated that OpenAI has a better chance of achieving superintelligence compared to Meta. While he acknowledged certain aspects of Meta that he respects, he ultimately critiqued the company’s innovation track record. Meta did not respond to requests for comment regarding the recruitment attempts.
