OpenAI unveiled its latest AI model, GPT-5, during a live-streamed event, showcasing significant advancements in accuracy, reasoning, coding, writing, health, and multimodal functions. The model aims to minimize hallucinations and sycophancy. However, CEO Sam Altman noted that OpenAI has even more capable models but can’t release them due to capacity constraints. To tackle this issue, the company plans substantial investment in data center infrastructure. Despite criticisms of GPT-5’s limited emotional depth and short responses, Altman affirmed that ChatGPT now ranks as the fifth-largest website globally, with aspirations to surpass Instagram and Facebook. OpenAI is also exploring new standalone applications and intends to invest in Merge Labs, a brain-computer interface startup. Collaborating with former Apple designer Jony Ive, OpenAI is developing a new AI device, although specifics remain unclear. This expansion positions OpenAI for future growth in the competitive AI landscape.
