Samsung and SK Hynix Set to Benefit Significantly from OpenAI-AMD Chip Collaboration

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are set to benefit from a significant surge in memory chip demand due to OpenAI’s recent partnership with AMD. This collaboration includes deploying 6 gigawatts of AMD’s Instinct graphics processors over several years, starting a 1-GW rollout in 2026—potentially generating billions in revenue. Analysts estimate the AMD contract’s value between $60 billion to $90 billion, with Samsung and SK Hynix, the leading producers of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, each poised to secure substantial orders. Industry experts foresee that Samsung, with closer ties to AMD, may have an edge over SK Hynix, which is aligned with Nvidia. The AI boom is expected to double the market for AI-focused memory chips to $112 billion by 2027, highlighting a significant shift from traditional hardware. Recently, both companies signed agreements with OpenAI to supply HBM semiconductors, solidifying their roles in AI infrastructure as their stocks rose sharply.
