Samsung is gearing up for a significant overhaul of the AI features in its upcoming Galaxy S26 series, slated for launch in early 2026. Currently reliant on Google’s Gemini AI, the tech giant is exploring partnerships with vendors like OpenAI and Perplexity. Choi Won-Joon, President and COO of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division, emphasized the desire to offer users more choice and flexibility in AI agents, expressing openness to competitive options.
A potential collaboration with Perplexity could lead to a major software transformation, possibly integrating its AI capabilities into the Galaxy ecosystem, including the Samsung Internet browser and Bixby. They may even develop an “AI-infused” operating system with a standalone app for selecting different AI assistants, including ChatGPT.
Meanwhile, hardware decisions for the Galaxy S26 are pending, as Samsung weighs using the Exynos 2600 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. Competition is heating up, particularly with Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone debut.
