Samsung Explores New AI Collaborations for Smartphones Beyond Google’s Gemini

Samsung Electronics is actively pursuing partnerships with OpenAI and Perplexity AI to enhance AI integrations in its upcoming Galaxy S26 smartphone line, expanding beyond Google’s Gemini offerings. Choi Won-Joon, president of Samsung’s mobile division, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing diverse AI options for users. Currently, Samsung’s devices utilize Alphabet’s AI models, aligning with trends in the Android ecosystem. Reports suggest that Samsung is close to investing in Perplexity AI to integrate its app and assistant features. Additionally, Samsung is exploring new application processors for the Galaxy S26, considering both Qualcomm and its own Exynos 2600 to mitigate reliance on Qualcomm amid performance concerns. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 marked a significant milestone as the first foldable device to feature the Exynos chipset. With Apple’s upcoming folding iPhone leveraging similar technology, Choi believes that increased competition will further mainstream these innovations in the smartphone market.
