Sea Limited, a Singapore-based tech group, has consolidated its partnership with OpenAI by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to leverage artificial intelligence across Southeast Asia. This collaboration, initially initiated in February with Shopee as a launch partner for the AI agent Operator, aims to enhance personalized shopping experiences. The latest agreement expands into payments and distribution, aiming to make AI tools more accessible for consumers and small businesses. Sea’s CEO, Forrest Li, emphasized AI’s transformative potential in enhancing connectivity and transactional experiences. OpenAI’s Oliver Jay highlighted Southeast Asia’s young, mobile-centric demographic as a catalyst for AI adoption. The first initiative under this MoU, launching August 8, offers new VIP subscribers in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam three months of free ChatGPT Plus access. Sea, which operates Shopee, Garena, and Monee, is committed to innovation and empowering communities in the digital economy.
