On January 2, 2026, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi urged the Indian government to take immediate action against social media platforms misusing AI technology to “sexualize and undress” women without consent. In a formal letter to Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, she highlighted the alarming use of AI tools, particularly the “Grok” feature on X (formerly Twitter), which allows users to manipulate images and create explicit content. Chaturvedi criticized this as a gross violation of women’s rights and emphasized the need for stringent regulations and built-in safeguards against such abuses. While India has established IT rules to hold platforms accountable, enforcement remains a challenge amidst advancing AI capabilities. The appeal reflects ongoing global concerns regarding deepfakes and non-consensual content, calling for stronger action to protect women’s dignity in the digital landscape. Chaturvedi’s letter was also sent to other key officials, aiming for a comprehensive government response.
