The EPP Group is set to vote on delaying and simplifying the EU’s new Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulations, which aim to ease compliance for businesses and support innovation. MEP Arba Kokalari emphasized the need to reduce bureaucracy and avoid overlapping requirements, allowing companies to focus on one clear framework. This proposal seeks to postpone key obligations for high-risk AI systems, giving businesses more time to adapt. Kokalari pointed out that overly strict regulations could hinder safe AI innovations. The EPP Group also advocates for a ban on AI-generated fake nude images without consent while ensuring legitimate AI applications, like healthcare and retail tools, remain unaffected. Negotiations with EU nations are anticipated to finish by April, aiming for final adoption before August 2026. The overall goal is to foster a conducive environment for innovation in Europe, ensuring that low-risk AI isn’t burdened by high-risk regulations.
