A new study presented at the American Heart Association meeting reveals that AI-powered voice agents can significantly aid older adults in managing high blood pressure. The research involved 2,000 participants, primarily aged 65 and older, who received calls from an AI agent prompting them to report blood pressure readings. The AI escalated calls to healthcare professionals if readings were concerning. This automated approach achieved an 85% patient reach, with 60% providing compliant readings, reducing costs by 88.7% compared to human nurses. Patient satisfaction was remarkably high, averaging over 9 out of 10. Lead author Dr. Tina-Ann Kerr Thompson emphasized the study’s potential to enhance blood pressure control and address barriers to care. Experts like Dr. Eugene Yang noted that such breakthroughs in AI technology could revolutionize patient management and improve health outcomes. The findings underscore the importance of timely blood pressure monitoring, particularly for individuals with limited access to healthcare.
