SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, alongside top Trump administration officials, recently updated stakeholders on a groundbreaking $500 billion AI data center project in Ohio, dubbed the “Stargate” venture. This ambitious initiative, one of the largest construction projects in U.S. history, is expected to be completed by early 2028. Located on a 3,700-acre former uranium enrichment site in Piketon, the campus will generate 10 gigawatts (GW) of power, sufficient to supply approximately 7.5 million homes. Initial costs for this project are projected between $30 billion and $40 billion, utilizing 800 megawatts initially and relying on $33 billion in natural gas. Despite concerns about rising water and electricity costs, the Trump administration is urging tech companies to cover their infrastructure expenses. The project is seen as crucial in the race against China in artificial intelligence. The first natural gas turbines are set to arrive within a year, positioning SoftBank at the forefront of AI advancements.
