SoftBank’s Son Proposes Ambitious $1 Trillion AI Hub in Arizona

admin

Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, is proposing a $1 trillion industrial complex in Arizona focused on robotics and artificial intelligence, as reported on July 4, 2023. This initiative, known as Project Crystal Land, aims to replicate China’s Shenzhen manufacturing hub in the U.S. Son is looking to collaborate with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and has been in talks with U.S. and state officials about potential tax incentives for the project. The feasibility of the venture hinges on support from government agencies and the interest of tech companies, including Samsung Electronics. TSMC is already investing $165 billion in U.S. chipmaking facilities. The plan significantly surpasses SoftBank’s previous $500 billion “Stargate” project, aimed at expanding data center capabilities across the U.S. SoftBank has recently announced other major investments, including acquiring Ampere for $6.5 billion and underwriting up to $40 billion in OpenAI investments.
