Stack Overflow’s annual Developer Survey reveals trends among over 49,000 global developers, highlighting the rising adoption of AI tools—84% now utilize or plan to use them, up from 76% in 2024. However, there is a growing skepticism about AI output, with 46% of respondents expressing distrust, a significant rise from 31% last year. This “trust gap” poses challenges for enterprises aiming to integrate AI into software development, as developers prefer human oversight of AI-generated code, particularly due to ethical and security concerns. While 75% of developers seek human second opinions, the market for entry-level skills is diminishing as automation increases. Interestingly, satisfaction with AI tools is high among users, yet only 31% actively use them. Despite fears of job displacement, 64% of developers do not view AI as a threat to their roles. Platforms like Stack Overflow remain essential for learning, underscoring a strong preference for human-led collaboration in coding.
