Starling Launches AI-Powered ‘Spending Intelligence’ Tool

Starling Bank is introducing a new feature called ‘Spending Intelligence’, utilizing a Generative AI Large Language Model from Google, known as Gemini. This innovative chatbot, available to all customers starting today, allows users to ask questions about their spending habits directly within the Starling app. Customers can engage with the chatbot via typed or verbal queries, such as inquiring about past charitable donations or weekly grocery expenses. Starling’s finance chief, Declan Ferguson, highlighted the bank’s pioneering role as the first in the UK to offer generative AI capabilities to its customers. He expressed enthusiasm for this feature as part of a broader strategy to integrate AI into their banking services. Additionally, Ferguson announced plans to hire 400 software engineers this year to accelerate AI development within the organization, aiming to enhance the overall customer experience with innovative technology.
