Google has enhanced its educational efforts with the launch of three AI-powered study aids in the Gemini app, alongside a complimentary year of the Google AI Pro plan for students in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Brazil. Starting today, students aged 18 and above with verified accounts can access advanced generative tools at no cost. The new Guided Learning mode turns Gemini into a comprehensive tutor, equipped with probing questions and effective problem-solving demonstrations using the highly-rated LearnLM-tuned Gemini 2.5 Pro model. The app also integrates multimedia elements like diagrams and YouTube clips into answers, generating flashcards and study guides to streamline exam preparations. Typically $20 annually, the Google AI Pro plan includes benefits like 2 TB Drive storage and access to the Deep Think reasoning engine. This initiative is part of a $1 billion plan to integrate AI into higher education, enhancing opportunities for ethical AI research as well.
