SoftBank Group achieved a record profit in fiscal Q3 2025, marking a significant turnaround with a $4.2 billion gain from its OpenAI investment. This resulted in a net profit of JPY248.6 billion ($1.6 billion), a stark contrast to the JPY369.2 billion loss experienced in Q3 2024. Sales rose by 8.2% to JPY1.9 trillion, bolstered by a $2.4 billion gain in its Vision Funds’ OpenAI holdings, which produced a profit of JPY735.5 billion. CFO Yoshimitsu Goto emphasized steady progress toward SoftBank’s goal of leading in artificial super intelligence, noting a follow-on investment that raised its stake in OpenAI to nearly 11%. Over the last nine months, SoftBank invested more than $40 billion. Revenue from its AI computing segment, including Arm, Ampere, and Graphcore, grew by 6.9% to JPY436.2 billion, despite incurring a loss of JPY91.8 billion due to rising costs.
