Survey Reveals Increasing AI Adoption at Work is Heightening Security Threats

A recent survey by Anagram highlights the increasing use of generative AI tools in the workplace, revealing significant security risks. Conducted in July, it gathered insights from 500 U.S. employees across various sectors. Key findings include that 78% use AI tools like ChatGPT, even without company policies, and 58% have shared sensitive data with these tools. Alarmingly, 45% admitted to using unauthorized AI software at work. CEO Harley Sugarman emphasized that employees prioritize convenience over compliance, risking data leakage and compliance violations. He suggests implementing secure AI environments, training on data anonymization, and introducing tiered AI governance policies. With CISA facing budget cuts, Sugarman calls for the private sector to enhance security training tailored to specific tools. He advocates for role-based awareness and just-in-time interventions to foster safer practices and mitigate insider threats, stressing the importance of understanding policy reasoning for better compliance.
