As the fifth anniversary of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 approaches, a CENTA survey reveals that over 70% of Indian teachers are leveraging AI tools in classrooms, primarily for lesson planning. The study, which involved over 5,000 educators, indicates that AI adoption is notably higher among teachers with three or more years of experience, with 75% actively using these technologies. While 67% of teachers rate their AI proficiency at 6 or above on a 10-point scale, only 57% accurately identify a basic AI misconception, highlighting significant gaps in understanding. Ramya Venkataraman, CEO of CENTA, emphasizes the necessity for structured training programs to bridge this divide. Additionally, the survey showed that 84% of parents and students expressed concerns about AI, particularly regarding its accuracy (23%) and potential job displacement (34%). Participants included a diverse range of stakeholders from various educational backgrounds, enhancing the survey’s insights into AI in education.
