Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, a 20-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested for allegedly attacking OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home. Authorities report that he threw a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s residence in the Russian Hill neighborhood, resulting in a minor fire that self-extinguished. Thankfully, no injuries occurred during the incident. Investigators also linked Moreno-Gama to threats against OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay, where he was apprehended while allegedly threatening to set the building ablaze. He faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, arson, and criminal threats, after police recovered an incendiary device and reviewed surveillance footage. Although no motive has been publicly disclosed, Altman referenced the attack in a blog post discussing anxiety around artificial intelligence (AI) after encountering a troubling article about himself. Moreno-Gama is currently held in San Francisco County Jail while prosecutors proceed with the case, which remains in the allegation stage as it awaits trial.
