Teen Innovator: Brazilian 16-Year-Old Develops AI Tool to Tackle Urban Heat Challenges

A 16-year-old Brazilian student, Isaque Carvalho Borges, developed EcoAção Brasil, an innovative tool using artificial intelligence to identify urban heat hotspots and guide climate interventions. Inspired by high temperatures in Palmas, Tocantins, Borges created this system to combat the escalating urban heat issue, which can lead to serious health problems, particularly affecting vulnerable populations. EcoAção Brasil analyzes satellite data on ground temperature, vegetation, and built-up areas to pinpoint priority intervention zones for solutions such as reforestation, green roofs, and improved urban planning. Recognized with the Earth Prize 2025 in Central and South America, Borges aims to promote youth engagement and social awareness around climate change. The project emphasizes free technological access for local institutions, fostering community involvement and educational impact. With goals for a functional prototype by December 2025 and a comprehensive platform by 2026, EcoAção Brasil represents a significant step towards sustainable urban development in Brazil.
