Four teenage students from Ghayathi, UAE, have made a notable impact globally by winning a regional Earth Prize with their project “EcoMind Academy.” This AI-powered app aims to integrate sustainability education into school curricula through interactive and gamified lessons on topics like recycling, blending eco-conscious learning with subjects such as math and English. Team leader Israa Ashraf emphasized that the initiative goes beyond app development, aiming to empower students as leaders in sustainability. Backed by the Earth Foundation, their $12,500 prize will help them enhance AI-driven tools and build partnerships with schools across the UAE and into neighboring countries. While acknowledging the environmental criticisms of AI, the team’s approach seeks to equip peers with knowledge and confidence to tackle climate challenges.
